The Askellian Race developed slowly compared to other races. They spent several hundred years living in small communities and living off the forests. Askellians have always respected the forest. Although they have no real religion, they treat the great trees of thier forests as gods and find great comfort in meditating under thier huge branches.
 In the late 2350's as thier population grew, they slowly attempted to advance thier technology to meet the people's needs. Space travel was developed, but only at impulse speeds. Most Askellians did not see the need to explore space and refused to leave the homeworld. More and more large cities were built to house the growing population, eating up great tracts of forest land. Eventually, they soon overpopulated thier planet and a huge food war broke out between Tribes, Clans, and Packs. This Great Food War raged for 4 bloody years.
 During the Great Food War, in the year 2355, Askellian scientists had just started exploring space looking for habitabul planets when the first contact was made with another alien race, the Breen. The Breen attempted to invade and enslave the Askellian people. This action by the Breen united the Askellians to a common goal and a 3 year war broke out between the Askellians and Breen. The Breen had superior weapons and spacecraft, but were unable to overcome the strong will of the Askellians and gave up thier invasion in 2358. Many historians believe that if it were not for the Breen, the Askellian people would have destroyed themselves and thier planet.
 From examining Breen ships that were captured or left behind, the Askellians developed warp technology and greatly enhanced thier weapons technology. Askellians took several steps to solve their planet's problems, which was called the "Askellian Rebirth". Habitubal planets were located and whole communities of Askellians were moved to the planets to start new colonies. Askellian females were limited to 1 litter of childern in order to slow population growth. Many cities on the homeworld of Askel were torn down and the forests were allowed to retake the land. The hunting of wild beasts on Askel was restricted and controlled.
 During the Rebirth, the Askellians also started developing a massive defense fleet in order to protect themselves from further invasion attempts. The Askellian Protector Fleet was built and was given the task of defending and expanding the Askellian Territory.
 In the 2361, the Askellians had extended thier territory and had their second contact with an alien race, the Federation. This contact resulted in a standoff which lasted 2 years. After the Askellians realized that the Federation had no hostile intentions, a peace treaty was signed.
 The Ferengi were the next race the Askellians encountered, resulting in a brief battle in 2365, that destroyed 4 Ferengi ships. The Ferengi decided against an armed conflict with the Askellian, due the failed Breen attempt. After several long negotiations, a peace and trade agreement was reached between the Askellians and Ferengi.
 In the year 2367, the Askellian's territory had expanded to 4 systems. It was then agreed that thier territory was large enough. The Askellian council did not want to spread thier fleet too thin and thier overpopulation problem had been solved. The council then concentrated thier efforts on social reforms and advancing other fields, such as agricultual issues and medical advancements.
 At the present time, the Askellians are allies with the Federation. There is much trade between the Federation and the Ferengi, but social involvement with other races is still limited. Few Askellians ever leave the Askellain Territory, preferring to be as near the homeworld as possible. Askellian's also limit the number of visitors into thier territory. Visits from other races are limited to official and commercial business. Only Ambassaders and Official visitors to the Council are allowed on Askel itself.
